Week of July 21st

My dear community,

Corn is back in the CSA boxes! Just a sweet reminder that our organic corn is something that all of nature wants to partake in so it usually comes with a bonus worm or two at the top. That’s a good thing! The worm(s) can just be discarded into your backyard as a snack for a delighted creature. You may not find a worm, but normally the tops are a little mushy and/or even black. Please discard any part that doesn’t look edible and enjoy the rest. Also, if you find anything in your box that is inedible we will replace it in your next box. Please let us know as soon as you can.

We’re having a flash sale on our Ojai Jalapeño and Apricot Habeñero Jams for just $5 each to make way for…our own strawberry jam! It’s made from our favorite strawberries on the farm and will be in our online store soon. We are also selling San Julian ground beef by the pound. It’s frozen until it goes into your box so please make sure you are available to properly transfer it to your fridge or freezer.

Stuffed Pattypan Squash

Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon ghee, butter or coconut oil + a little extra
4 pattypan squash
4-5 cloves garlic, minced
4-5 Roma tomatoes (or whatever tomatoes you have – these guys were small), chopped
2 cups chopped kale (or some other green)
1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
salt and pepper to taste

Southwest Cobb Salad

Ingredients:
Grilled chicken breast
1 lb mixed greens
1 cup black beans
1 cup corn
1 cup halved cherry tomatoes
2 hard boiled eggs, halved
½ cup shredded jack cheese
1 avocado, diced
¼ cup olive oil
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon cilantro
Salt to taste

Balsamic Sautéed Kale

Ingredients:
1 tbs. olive oil
1 8 oz. package of cremini mushrooms
1 small onion, or large shallot
½ tsp. salt
1 bunch kale, roughly chopped
2 tbs. balsamic vinegar

Italian Style Tomato + Avocado Chopped Salad

Ingredients:
2 Avocados, ripe
2 cups Cherry or grape tomatoes
1 English cucumber, large
1 Red onion, medium
1/4 cup Basil pesto
2 tbsp Lemon juice
1 Sea salt and fresh ground black pepper

8 oz Mozzarella cheese balls, small fresh
