About the Farm

Hello!

On behalf of the entire SGO farm-ily, we want to express our sincere gratitude for trusting us to be your local food provider. We’re dedicated to empowering our community with naturally grown produce, and providing plenty of tips and recipes to teach you how to eat it!

Consider this handbook a "user manual" to familiarize yourself with the inner workings of our CSA. If you have any questions after reading, feel free to email us any time.

Looking forward to seeing you at the farm!

Your farmer,
Carolyn

FAQ & Policies

HOW DOES WEEKLY ORDERING/PICK UP WORK?

We'll text you before we harvest, and you'll have until 9 pm Monday to add extras to your order, or to notify us if you need to skip the week's share. And speaking of skip...

WHAT IF I GO ON VACATION/HAVE TO SKIP A WEEK?

While we'd never advise skipping your veggies, we understand that life gets busy! Every week, you'll receive a text message alert when our harvest starts, with the option to “skip” by 9pm Monday to opt out of the week's order at no charge (full season members will receive a full week's credit to use on their next order).

CAN I CUSTOMIZE WHAT’S IN MY BOX?

We work hard to give members the freshest produce at a good price; and in order to do so, we pick seasonal fruits and vegetables within 24 hours of box deliveries. This means we are somewhat on nature’s schedule according to the seasonal harvest. Unfortunately our operation is not large enough to let you pick and choose what goes into your box. Everyone gets the same thing, and we don't allow substitutions within the box. You can, however, customize your box by adding extra produce items such as herbs, eggs, and even fresh bread from Deux Bakery.

How will I know what’s coming up/when to order?

Our weekly newsletter is sent a few days before pick up/delivery, so you’ll know what we’re harvesting (and what recipes to use!). Else, you can expect to hear from us primarily through SMS/Text Message.  We’ll text you before we harvest with the option to shop add-ons, or skip the week’s order at no charge. Make sure to save us in your contacts–we’ll text you again when your order is ready!

What’s a support local fee?

In lieu of sales tax or set up fees, a small 7% support local fee is applied to each order to cover our payment processing and technology costs. This allows your farmers to focus more on what we do best - growing great food!

Member Tips & Resources

Produce Storage Tips

We harvest our produce at its prime, ensuring peak freshness and longevity compared to grocery store counterparts. Follow these tried and true tips to make that farm-fresh flavor last:

  • Get your farm box to a cool location ASAP. Nothing ruins fresh produce faster than the hot sun! If you’re out running errands, we recommend making the farm your last stop to avoid spoilage. If you get delivery, please be sure you have a shady spot for us to leave your box.
  • Take the tops off your carrots and beets right away when you get home to preserve freshness.
  • Wash, dry, and store your greens in a bag (our favorites here!) with some wet paper towels and place in the fridge.

Remember to thoroughly wash all produce before consuming!

Kitchen Tools & Gadgets

Level up from CSA Member to CSA Master with tools and gadgets handpicked to help you maximize the enjoyment of your farm box.

  • Salad spinner: Quickly clean and dry CSA produce, saving time and ensuring freshness. Efficient, convenient, and enhances longevity.
  • Good kitchen knives, along with a knife sharpener (or local business who sharpens knives!).
  • Reusable glass containers and mason jars to keep your food as farm-fresh as possible.
  • Sheet pans for roasting delicious veggies!
  • Food processor: The one “big-ticket” item we recommend. Use it for making salsa, pesto, pizza dough, and pureeing items like soups and sauces.
